Speak Your Truth [Video]

(view video below)

As Maya Angelou said, "There is no greater agony than bearing an untold story inside you."

What's your story? Maya Angelou had unspeakable things happen to her that silenced her voice at a young age. She literally did not speak for almost five years but during that time fell in love with books. After holding a variety of jobs from the first black female cable care conductor in San Francisco at age 16 to calypso dancer and correspondent in Africa, she decided to concentrate on her writing career. From her first book, I Know Why The Caged Bird Sings, she exploded with verse -- approaching controversial and painful topics such as racism and rape. When she died in 2014 at the age of 86, Maya Angelou published seven autobiographies, three books of essays, several books of poetry, and is credited with a list of plays, movies, and television shows spanning over 50 years. She exposed colorful and frontal anecdotes from her experience that inspired so many around the world to be authentic and audacious. You don't have to go on Reality TV, but understand your tapestry -- the bits and pieces that make up who you are.  Acknowledge your unique story and speak your truth. Everyone has a narrative -- details of a personal odyssey. Unless you were born with extreme favor, there are usually ups and downs. Sometimes it's like getting on the small roller coaster at the local amusement park, and other times you're gripping the rails preparing for the deep dive on the Cyclone. Perhaps you keep hitting up against the same wall. Journal your path and look for patterns. Maybe you've overcome a big obstacle. Honor your own resilience. Sharing your story with at least one other person may help you release strongholds and give them the courage to do the same. As you know yourself better, you will express yourself clearer and clearer AND contribute to expanding the Universe.

CENTERING THOUGHT

I speak my truth.

YOUR CALL TO ACTION

This week’s call to action this week is speak your truth. Ask yourself: What is my story? Get out a journal and start writing. It doesn’t have to be a memoir. Instead note key defining moments. Then share your personal insights with someone you trust. This entire week, consider ways to honor your own journey and speak your truth. That’s your practice. Let Maya Angelou’s words ignite your voice: “There is no greater agony than bearing an untold story inside you.” Let me know how it goes by commenting here. I'll check in at the end of the week to see how you did. Until next time, remember – it’s your divine life, live it to the fullest. The power is in your hands!

With Purpose & Power,

Terri
